Some of the articles in this issue: The Foundation releases the results of a Grantee Perception Report conducted by the Center for Effective Philanthropy. The report allowed grantees to give confidential feedback about their experiences working with the Hewlett Foundation and its staff. With major funding from the Hewlett Foundation, the Community School for Music and Arts has opened its doors in Mountain View, California. The 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility gives Bay Area residents unparalleled access to studios, classrooms, teaching resources and performances. "By the People" from MacNeil/Lehrer Productions aired in January, giving Americans from ten communities across the country the opportunity to discuss some of the most important international issues facing the United States today. This experiment in what is being called "deliberative democracy" is a grantee of the Foundation's Global Affairs Initiative.
