The Hewlett Foundation provides support for an activity of the MacArthur Foundation Network on Teaching and Learning, through a grant to the Center for School Improvement (CSI) at the University of Chicago, to design products and tools for schools to use to improve instruction. Leading educational researchers, such as Professors Anthony Bryk of the University of Chicago, John Bransford of the University of Washington, and Louis Gomez of Northwestern University, are collaborating on a project to address the issue of how to use technology to build an effective information infrastructure to support improvements in teaching and learning at the school and classroom levels. The researchers will build technology-based tools for teachers and principals. The design will be based on clear frameworks of ambitious academic instruction. This work will be developed in conjunction with school staff who are actively engaged in the process of improving instruction.
