Campaign for College Opportunity

The Campaign for College Opportunity is a broad-based, bipartisan coalition, including business, education and labor leaders from around the state, dedicated to ensuring the next generation of  Californians has the opportunity to go to college in order to meet the workforce needs of the state. Formed by the California Business Roundtable, the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Community College League of California in response to a budget crisis that was limiting higher education enrollments, the Campaign devotes its efforts to informing the public of the urgency and importance of ensuring college access and success for eligible and motivated students.

The Campaign seeks expanded investment in higher education opportunity. It also works to identify effective practices for colleges to best serve the next generation of students, including its new Practices with Promise effort, a call for solutions to address college opportunity. It has produced numerous research reports, including Return in Investment, which highlighted the numerous economic benefits of expanding college access and success, including high tax revenues and reduced need for social services. It also runs the annual Save Me a Spot in College scholarship competition to engage high school students in developing messages about the importance of college opportunity for the next generation.
