Center for Urban Education
University of Southern California

The Center for Urban Education (CUE) is a research and action center focused on fostering successful educational transitions for youth and adults from socially and economically disenfranchised populations. Based at the University of California's Rossier School of Education, CUE has led several community college initiatives focused on enhancing institutional responsibility for student success. These include the Equity Scorecard, which aims to close the achievement gap for historically underrepresented students through the use of existing institutional data disaggregated by race, ethnicity and gender. Using similar methodologies, CUE's current project, the California Benchmarking Project, engages colleges in an evidence-based model of assessment to improve student outcomes. In particular, CUE is working with evidence teams at three lead colleges with a goal of increasing the number of under-prepared community college students, particularly African-American and Latino students, who successfully transition to transfer-level coursework.
