The Institute for College Access & Success

The Institute for College Access & Success works to make higher education more available and affordable for people of all backgrounds. Through nonpartisan research, analysis, and advocacy, the Institute aims to improve the processes and public policies that can pave the way to successful educational outcomes for students and for society. With a particular focus on college affordability, the Institute piloted the Project on Student Debt, which has successfully spotlighted the growth of student debt and its implications for current and future generations of students. The Institute's analysis and recommendations played an instrumental role in recent reforms of federal financial aid policy.

In California, the Institute is working with college officials, researchers, and advocacy organizations to press for improvements in financial aid funding and delivery as well as other support services that improve student access and success. Its first report on community colleges, Green Lights and Red Tape, highlighted promising policies and practices to improve affordability for California community college students by improving the delivery of financial aid to low-income students.
