PACE draws on Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis faculty to provide research and policy analysis to the state's decisionmakers. The organization is known among policymakers for producing balanced, high-quality research in a timely fashion. The Hewlett Foundation is supporting PACE's research and policy activities in three priority areas:
- Accountability - assessing how state and federal accountability pressures and resources shape the behavior and motivation of teachers and principals
- Professional development - analyzing how state programs and policies shape the skills and motivation of teachers
- Articulation between high school and community college - examining how information, support, and intersegmental collaboration can be improved for students who might enter two-year colleges
By improving understanding of how education policy influences learning outcomes, providing seminars to inform policymakers and media, and facilitating discussion around pressing education policy issues, PACE fits directly into the Education Program's efforts to improve California's schools and community colleges.
