About this publication

This editorial article by Education Program Director Marshall Smith, appeared in The Sacramento Bee on May 16, 2004.  It calls for the prompt settlement of Williams v. State of California, a class action lawsuit, which argues that the state is denying thousands of students their right to an education by not providing basic educational resources. Smith argues that settling this lawsuit and implementing education reform proposals aimed at ensuring adequate education resources for all students would help make the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education truly a celebration of increased opportunity for all of California's students.
