This report from the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning provides data and analysis of California’s teaching workforce, as well as the challenges facing state educators and policy-makers.
The report recognizes the numerous steps that California policymakers took in 2006 to improve the state’s teacher workforce, noting that the number of underprepared teachers and those working on emergency permits were greatly reduced. The report cautions, however, that the underprepared teachers who remain are concentrated in schools serving high proportions of minority students and the poorest and lowest achieving students.
