The OpenCourseWare Consortium has Grown to More than 100 Higher
Education Institutions http://ocwconsortium.org/.
In supporting new forms of knowledge sharing, the underlying theory of change is that exemplary academic content, placed on the web in an open format, will help raise the level of quality of future open educational materials by setting a standard of practice. We also hope that freeing content will stimulate other institutions and individuals to also openly share. All funded content developed under a Hewlett grant should have a Creative Commons license http://creativecommons.org/ - we prefer the license to be "attribution only." Types of educational content include:
- OpenCourseWare - published teaching materials including syllabus, calendar, readings, lecture notes, assignments, study materials, simulations, video - see OCW Consortium Portal http://ocwconsortium.org/ for more information
- Full Courses - rich self-contained multi-media courses , some incorporating powerful cognitive tutoring systems and other assessment based feedback systems.
- Learning Objects – small flexible, customizable nuggets of knowledge, simulations, learning games, etc.
- Collections - of educational materials for teaching and learning and research. This includes library collections.
