Equal Access

The mission of Equal Access is to create positive social change for large numbers of people in the developing world by providing critically needed information and education.

The Hewlett Foundation has supported Equal Access' work providing locally appropriate educational content to rural regions in Nepal, Afghanistan, and other parts of the developing world.  Equal Access' work combines satellite communications infrastructure with traditional terrestrial radio re-broadcasting through partnerships with rural radio stations. It has established a digital satellite channel, the "Equal Access Asia Development Channel," for the delivery of audio (radio) and multimedia information and education in South and Central Asia. Its receivers have already been proven to transmit clear audio anywhere throughout the region, regardless of altitude, geography or energy source (they operate with batteries or solar power). This innovative undertaking is particularly suited to Nepal and Afghanistan's  infrastructure challenges, mountainous geography and challenges with the lack of balanced information in this period of transition.

Equal Access was named one of five winners of the 2003 Tech Museum Awards winning the Nasdaq Stock Market Award for Education. For more information, please visit the  Equal Access website at http://www.equalaccess.org/.
