Economically-disadvantaged communities frequently have fewer neighborhood parks, lack equipment or training to take advantage of outdoor recreation, and are in need of more environmentally-friendly public transportation. Thus, the Environment Program’s regional grants support organizations that partner with residents of economically challenged communities to:
- Improve and expand urban parks.
- Support outdoor recreation programs for youth.
- Improve the public transportation available to the community.
A small number of multi-year grants aimed at regional organizations will be made to support this work. We currently support the Trust for Public Land’s Bay Area Parks for People Program, and the San Francisco Foundation’s Livability initiative (BALCI – Bay Area Livable Communities Initiative). Additional grants will be announced in Fall 2007.
We currently do not accept unsolicited proposals.
