New Online Tool Helps Grantees Design Smart Communications Strategies

Putting together a communications plan just got a lot easier, thanks to a new free online tool from Spitfire Strategies. The Interactive Smart Chart 2.0, developed by Spitfire Strategies and funded in part by the Hewlett Foundation, is now available online at www.smartchart.org.

The new Interactive Smart Chart makes it easy for nonprofits to hone their communications goals, identify their target audiences, and implement a plan to help achieve their goals.  Kristin Grimm, President of Spitfire Strategies, developed the original Smart Chart in response to a growing need by nonprofits to fine-tune their messages without breaking the budget with consulting fees.

The Interactive Smart Chart guides users around roadblocks that can throw plans off track, helping them make critical choices that will guide them towards their goals. Through a series of prompts, the easy-to-use program plots a communications strategy complete with goals and objectives, decisionmakers and target audiences, messages and messengers, and benchmarks for measuring success along the way.  An evaluation tool allows users to check their choices, making sure they stay on course.  Finished charts can be saved, printed, and revised as needed, allowing for maximum flexibility.

“We’re passionate about communications and dedicated to positive change,” said Grimm.  “The new Interactive Smart Chart frees up the process by allowing nonprofits to craft their communications strategies on-site, in their own time, using their own resources.”
