Program Associate, Effective Philanthropy Group
Sara VanLear joined the Foundation in 2010 and serves as the Program Associate for the Effective Philanthropy group. In her work at the Foundation, she provides a broad range of project management support to the Philanthropy grantmaking portfolio and the Organizational Effectiveness Program, partnering with organizations to make philanthropic and nonprofit practices more effective as well as working internally with staff on their grantees’ capacity building priorities.
Sara comes to the Foundation from the development department at the San Francisco Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra prior to her move to California. A native of Clifton Forge Virginia, she completed her B.A. in History at the College of William and Mary and has worked on issues ranging from housing to education to the arts.
