LEED performance standards represent more than a choice about walls and windows. A key principle in the design of the Foundation's building was the recognition that the workspace environment can foster health and well-being and promote creativity, collaboration, and productivity. However, these sustainable features are not incorporated merely for efficiency, but to establish a delightful work environment and a welcoming place to visit.
The Hewlett Foundation building is located on previously developed property and is connected to alternative transportation lines, the Stanford University campus, local community infrastructure, and bike and walking paths. Many existing trees, including several magnificent oaks, have been preserved, and 60 percent of the site has been dedicated for open space.
