Thomas C. Schroeder
Associate General Counsel
Thomas C. Schroeder serves as
associate general counsel for The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. He has
a wide range of duties, including advising staff; assuring compliance with
state, federal, and international laws; and developing internal policies and trainings.
Before joining the Foundation, Mr. Schroeder worked as an attorney at the law
firm of Davis Wright Tremaine in Seattle, Washington, where his practice
focused exclusively on advising the boards and staff of charitable and other tax-exempt
organizations on federal tax, charitable trust, and corporate law issues.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Schroeder held positions in the
department of European paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
City and at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
Mr. Schroeder received a B.A. in art history and English literature from
Bowdoin College, an M.A. in the history of art from the Courtauld Institute of
Art in London, England, and a J.D. from the University of Washington School of
Law, where he was Executive Articles Editor of the Washington Law Review.
