Global Development Program
Promoting Sustainability and Equity Around the World
Bringing product to market in Darfur, Sudan.
The world of the 21st century is a study of contrasts. Despite rapid economic growth in some countries, more than 2.7 billion people-40 percent of the world's population-live in extreme poverty. Nearly half of the people in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia live on less than $2 a day. This level of poverty typically leads to malnourishment, low literacy levels, and significantly shortened life expectancy. The Global Development Program is dedicated to improving the lives of these people.
Based on the latest research, consultation with other development experts, and the Program staff's own experience in making grants, the Foundation concluded that promoting equitable and sustainable economic growth in the developing world is the best way to improve lives. Our grantmaking focuses on countries in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Mexico.
Goals:
- Improve the efficiency of agricultural markets
- Promote transparent and accountable governance around the world, with an emphasis on Mexico
- Improve the quality of education in the developing world
- Increase the amount of high-quality policy analysis created in the developing world
