Abhinaya transmits the ongoing practice of classical South Indian dance across the generations and builds community among immigrant Indian American residents through its intensive training program for 100 students ages six to eighteen, and professional dance company, which reaches 12,000 people throughout Santa Clara County. A renewal grant to Abhinaya would help to strengthen the company’s fundraising and audience development capacities.

Abhinaya Dance Company teaches and performs Bharatanatyam, the traditional practice of classical South Indian dance, and builds community among Indian American residents. The organization provides an intensive year-round training program for more than 100 youth and young women, and offers a career development program for emerging dance teachers and choreographers. Its professional dance company reaches more than 15,000 people through its concert season and performances at regional venues, community sites, and local schools in the South Bay. This grant to Abhinaya advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
