Overview
Brava! for Women in the Arts produces, presents, and cultivates the artistic expression of women, people of color, youth, LGBT, and other under-represented voices at its historic facility in San Francisco’s Mission District. The organization produces a season of eight projects, reaching more than 30,000 audience members each year, and provides arts education and job training programs for youth. Brava’s growing rentals program makes its facility accessible to key constituents at affordable rates.

Brava! for Women in the Arts produces, presents, and cultivates the artistic development and creative expression of women, people of color, youth, LGBTQIA, and other underrepresented voices. The San Francisco organization offers an eclectic annual season of eight projects, an artist residency program, affordable space rentals for artistic development and community groups, and arts education and job training programs for youth. Each year, Brava reaches more than 30,000 audience members. This grant to Brava advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Brava is dedicated to producing and presenting live performances that ignite social change and empower its community in the heart of the Mission District. In addition to its thirteen-project annual season reaching 20,000 audience members and including four world premieres, Brava provides arts education and job training programs for youth. Through its small but dynamic staff, Brava has become a recognized artistic voice in the Bay Area and remains committed to hiring 90 percent of its artists locally. Brava has made great strategic and leadership strides in the last several years and is well positioned for continued success in creating and presenting new, innovative theater.
