Overview
This project grant would support the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of a Law as it plans, hosts, and follows up a conference on U.S. government dysfunction. The Brennan Center is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve our systems of democracy and justice. This conference will gather participants from politics, policy, journalism, academe, and philanthropy to identify the causes and effects of, and possible solutions to, current government dysfunction. The Center will share ensuing insights with the public in a series of publications and reports. It will also undertake an internal planning effort to determine how these issues will influence its own priorities in the years ahead.

Founded as a memorial to the values of Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law works to advance innovative policy and legal reforms designed to "revitalize American democracy and ensure a fair, effective justice system." The Center's core areas of focus include campaign finance, voting rights, judicial independence, and redistricting. In commemoration of its 20th anniversary, the Center has established a special Brennan Legacy Fund to enable rapid-response resources for breaking opportunities and to keep the organization financially strong and secure for the long term. This grant for general operating support would help to support this fund, and all of the Center's work.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve and revitalize our nation’s systems of democracy and justice. To solve the country’s problems, these systems must represent the interests of all people. Today, American institutions are being severely tested. The center is deeply engaged in the fight against abuse and to protect the rule of law. But that is not enough. The center is also focused on generating innovative solutions that strengthen our democracy and restore constitutional protections. It aims to build deep new public momentum for reform.
