Overview
The Eritrean Community Center is the fiscal sponsor for Oriki Theater. Each year, Oriki Theater provides more than 100,000 people with opportunities to experience Africa and its people and cultures through a combination of outreach programs in local schools, mentorship programs for youth, a film festival, and a theatrical production season. Oriki Theater’s programs feature dance, drama, music, poetry, chant, folk stories, and the drum.

Eritrean Community Center Santa Clara County is the fiscal sponsor for Oriki Theater, which reaches more than 100,000 people each year. From outreach programs in local schools to season productions, Oriki Theater provides ways for participants to experience Africa, its people, and their cultures through a unique combination of artistic forms, including dance, drama, music, poetry, chants, folk stories, and the drum. Oriki Theater’s professional artists perform for pre-K through grade 12 students in 50 Santa Clara County schools, in both assemblies and longer-term residencies, as well as for the public in diverse community venues. Renewed funding through the Eritrean Community Center will help Oriki Theater to solidify its Silicon Valley African Film Festival at its new home in San Jose, and continue its educational programming with youth in the region.

Oriki reaches more than 100,000 people per year throughout Silicon Valley. A company of professional artists perform for pre-K through 12 students in 43 Santa Clara County schools, in both assemblies and longer-term residencies, as well as for the public in diverse community venues. Renewed funding through the Eritrean Community Center will allow Oriki to implement its 2015 strategic plan by strengthening its volunteer leadership structure and programs.
