Overview
Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement is a trans-partisan foundation affinity group working to "inspire interest, understanding, and investment in civic engagement within philanthropy and to be a voice for philanthropy in larger conversations taking place in the fields of civic engagement, service, and democratic practice." The group works to (a) build a philanthropic network encouraging "participation and inclusion in community, civic, and political life," (b) "inspire and incubate strategic collaborations within philanthropy that bring together policymakers, nonprofits, business, and the media to support active citizenship," and (c) increase the quantity and quality of philanthropic investment in civic engagement. This grant for general support will support the group through a leadership transition as it formalizes next steps and future priorities.

Grants to this Grantee
for support of the Funders’ Summit
Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE) is a philanthropic laboratory for funders seeking to maximize their impact on democracy and civic life in the U.S. This grant will provide support for PACE, in partnership with the Democracy Funders Network, to host a convening for funders to discuss the root causes of the problems limiting the efficacy of our governing institutions and to explore strategies for strengthening them. The goal of the summit is to provide an opportunity for funders to learn, to place issues of effective governance within the broader ecosystem of threats to the health of American democracy, and to grow the community of funders invested in this issue.

PACE’s priority areas of focus are advancing civic education and learning, addressing bridging and polarization, and understanding perceptions related to the language and concepts of democracy.
