Overview
The Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) is a Nigerian think tank with core expertise in conducting multicountry studies and advocacy in the areas of regional integration and global economic governance. This grant will support CSEA’s research and advocacy to support the drive for a regional data governance framework in Africa within the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement. This grant is part of a cluster of grants under the Evidence-Informed Policymaking strategy to strengthen a field of African institutions working on data governance. The goal of this cluster is to help governments in East and West Africa develop policy frameworks that balance public good uses of data with data privacy and protection.

The Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) is a nonprofit think tank based in Nigeria, conducting independent, high-quality, evidence-based research. CSEA has core expertise in conducting multicountry studies and advocacy in the areas of regional integration, digitalization, and global economic governance. This renewal grant will continue to support CSEA’s activities and initiatives to promote the adoption of data governance best practices across Africa — including long-term capacity development work in data governance, impact evaluation, and research on effective data governance frameworks, and the scaling of CSEA’s digital economy research portfolio into emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. This grant is part of a cluster of grants under the Evidence-Informed Policymaking strategy to strengthen a field of African institutions working on data governance. The goal of this cluster is to help governments in East and West Africa develop policy frameworks that balance public-good uses of data with data privacy and protection.
